» How is DNA obtained for testing? (Back)
Affiliated Genetics primarily obtains samples for DNA testing using cheek swabs to collect cells from inside the mouth. Other sample types are used in some cases, but cheek swabs provide a sufficient amount of cells for testing. The major reason for the use of cheek swabs is obviously the minimal discomfort associated with the collection. Testing cheek cells is just as accurate as testing blood.
