» What if the alleged fathers are related? (Back)
It is important to notify the laboratory when the father in question is biologically related to another potential father (father-son, brother-bother, uncle-nephew, etc). People who are related have more genetic material in common with each other. The only humans that share exact DNA patterns are monozygotic (identical) twins. The laboratory can run additional identity markers in advance if a close relationship situation is relevant to a case.
